Sales Page vs Landing Page: Discover which one you need

The difference between a sales page vs a landing page

sales page

A sales page and a landing page are two types of pages that are used in digital marketing to convert visitors into customers. Here are the key differences between a sales page and a landing page:

Purpose:

The main purpose of a sales page is to sell a product or service. It is a page that is specifically designed to highlight the features and benefits of a product or service and convince visitors to make a purchase. A landing page, on the other hand, is a standalone page that is designed to capture leads or encourage visitors to take a specific action, such as signing up for a newsletter, downloading an e-book, or registering for a webinar.

Content:

A sales page typically contains more detailed information about a product or service, including product images, pricing, testimonials, and a call to action. It may also include a longer sales copy that explains how the product or service can solve the visitor's problem. A landing page, on the other hand, typically contains less content and focuses on a specific offer or action. The content is usually concise and designed to encourage the visitor to take action.

Design:

A sales page is usually designed to be visually appealing, with high-quality images, videos, and graphics that showcase the product or service. It may also include a longer sales copy that is broken up into sections with clear headlines and bullet points. A landing page, on the other hand, is designed to be simple and easy to navigate. It typically has a clear headline, a brief description of the offer, and a prominent call to action.

Traffic:

A sales page is typically used to drive traffic from a variety of sources, such as social media, search engines, and email marketing. It is usually optimized for specific keywords and targeted to a particular audience. A landing page, on the other hand, is usually part of a targeted campaign that is designed to drive traffic to a specific offer or action.

In summary, a sales page is focused on selling a product or service, while a landing page is focused on capturing leads or encouraging visitors to take a specific action. A sales page typically contains more detailed information and is visually appealing, while a landing page is simple and easy to navigate.

What makes a good sales page

Sales page

Now that we know the difference, what actually makes a good sales page? Adding these to your sales page along with your content can help increase your sales page performance.

  • Multiple CTA's: A good long-form sales page has multiple calls to actions (CTA's) giving the customer multiple chances to move forward and actually buy your product or service.
  • Trust building: You can add trust-building sections like previous reviews or testimonials that build further trust in your brand and increase the chances of your customer clicking on one of your CTA's. Another way to build trust is with an FAQ section. This can help dispel any concerns your customer may have about your product or service.
  • Pricing breakdowns: Adding pricing breakdowns that highlight the details of each package and multiple options of ways to purchase such as monthly or yearly allows the customer to decide if this is the right product for them.

What makes a good landing page

A landing page is just as important when it comes to marketing your product. Here are some tips on how to create a good landing page:

  • An amazing headline: Landing pages are short but sweet so your headline really matters. Create a benefit-focused headline that entices customers to read on.
  • Great Imaging: You need to use images on your landing page and images that are eye-catching and target your audience and preferably elicit an emotion from them. Maybe how the customer will feel once they have your product and you can always split test image ideas to see which ones convert the best.
  • Clear Call to Action: The CTA is probably the most important part of your landing page so make sure it stands out and is clear on what you want your customer to do. Use action verbs like "submit" "download" or "get it now" that clearly lays out what will happen.

There are many tools that can help you build a great landing page such as email marketing platforms like ConvertKit and Mailchimp or separate online services. Whichever you use, making sure these elements are present will help boost your conversions.
